A Few Little Races

I felt like I didn't have much get-up-and-go at work today; I stumbled in at 9 am, and left at 5 pm. Well, I guess it happens sometime.

On the other hand, when I got home I felt like going for a bike ride, and waffled between doing the 5-mile ride through the UW Arboretum, or the 10-mile trip around Lake Monona. I finally decided to do the 10-mile trip, mainly because I didn't want to deal with the two major hills on the shorter route. It took me almost exactly an hour to make the circuit, and it was fun.

It's getting dark early, though; it was getting hard to see by 7 pm!

Maybe I just needed to get some exercise, and earlier today my body and mind were just complaining about having been a relative slug over the weekend.

With less than a week left in the regular baseball season, I'm in first place in my fantasy league, 3 points out of 100 ahead of second place. I like my chances, but this is definitely the closest race we've had in our league's five years.

I'm also enjoying the National League West race, in which a week ago the Dodgers had a two game lead over the Giants. Then the Giants swept the Dodgers in a two-game series, and then took 2 out of 3 from San Diego, even as Los Angeles was swept by the Rockies. Going into tonight's games, San Fran has a 2-1/2 game lead with not much time left.

I don't especially root for either club, normally, but the Dodgers these days are so faceless, once you get past Mike Piazza, that I'm rooting for the underdog Giants. Even though they will probably get crushed in the first round of playoffs.

I don't think my apartment's dryer is venting very well; time to call the landlords and have them send someone to look at it.
