Sweep

Today I drove out to Milwaukee to watch the final game of this week's Red Sox/Brewers series. Unlike Friday, I didn't come anywhere near catching a foul ball, although a few were hit into adjacent sections. I brought along The Postman and discovered that reading is a pretty good way to fill up those spaces between innings.

I remembered to wear my Red Sox cap, too, which meant I was a more-or-less lone Sox fan sitting amidst thousands of Brewers fans. Brewers fans are pretty good, as fans go, though, and they didn't mind my cheering when the Sox made good plays. Although they were disappointed when the Sox wriggled out of several jams, and went on to win the game 2-1, and sweep the series.

There was one amazing play in the game - amazingly boneheaded, that is. The Brewers had men on first and second, and no outs, so the next batter bunted, and the third baseman grabbed it quickly and obviously thought he could turn a double-play (a rare thing on a bunt), and so he threw a perfect throw to second base.

Too bad there wasn't a Red Sox fielder anywhere near second base!

The ball skipped into center field, and the Brewers scored their lone run of the game and ended up with men at first and third, still with nobody out. Fortunately, the pitcher induced a pop-up and then a double-play to get out of it. Still, I don't think I've ever seen such a mix-up! The third baseman did his job beautifully; I don't know what the shortstop and second baseman were doing. Sheesh!

I'm selling my old Mac to a friend tomorrow (it's a Centris 610; they want it for a gaming computer for their 5-year-old son, so they can get their main machine back for other purposes), so I spent this evening wiping everything off of it except for some shareware/freeware fonts I've collected. It didn't take long, actually.

Now I think I'll go do some more cleaning...
