Mets 6, Giants 1 (and 1 Matt, too)
Ceej and I went to the Giants/Mets game today, and a depressing game it was. CJ said going in that what she most wanted to see was a good, well-played game with few errors. What we got included Barry Bonds muffing a couple of balls, Mike Piazza hitting a home run, and the Mets generally walking all over the Giants, 6-1.
The most impressive part of the game was that the Mets put 23 (!!) runners on base but only scored 6 runs. The Giants are lucky the Mets didn't pound them for double digits. And the Giants offense could only muster 5 hits and four walks, for just one run. Mets starts Orel Hershiser dominated, while Kirk Reuter continued to be a hapless 'ace' for the Giants.
So we left feeling a little glum. I also felt rather dazed as I usually do when sitting in the sun all day. I like baseball games, but I must admit there's something nice about night games - at least once in a while.
I had also enticed Ceej into upper deck seats for a few games in the second half, and this was our first. We were in the second row of the upper deck near third base, and had a fine view. CJ admitted she preferred lower deck seats, which I can understand, especially since the upper deck at 3Comdlestick is farther from the field than it was at Milwaukee's County Stadium, but I still like it okay. We also had several foul balls come within about 50 feet of us, which I think was a new experience for CJ.
So I put the finishing touches on my preparations: Vacuumed the apartment (first time since I moved in - it needed it!), swept the linoleum floors (but didn't get around the mopping them), did some laundry, cleaned the guest bathroom, and, finally, spent some time recording my comic book purchases of the last few months into my database. (I also need to add a bunch of stuff to my comics for sale list.)
Matt showed up more-or-less on time, around 8:30. One nice thing about my apartment is that I have two parking spaces allocated to me, so we could stick his car in the second one. We did that and toted his stuff upstairs. I showed him around, and we pulled out the couch/futon on which he'll be sleeping this week.
We went out to dinner at Frankie, Johnny and Luigi's Too, an area chain of Italian restaurants, and a rather good one, at that. We got there around 10 pm, and the place was not very busy, even for a Saturday night. We had a good meal (FJ&L has great cannolli!) and headed home to plot our plans for the coming week...
