Crunching Numbers

Work was mostly ho-hum. I wrapped up some projects that had been sitting on my plate since last week. I'd been working through them all along, but finally got them done today. Okay, so I nearly blew away some of our release data to do it (whups!), but fortunately my error seemed to be recoverable. Phew!

I did spend a couple of hours in the afternoon writing up my part of my review. Supposedly we have these things every six months, but I think this will be my fourth in four years. There are some people who have never had one. I took as long as I did because I had to think through how to put things; I have some 'issues' to raise, and I don't think there's anything really new there, but I've brought them up before and they haven't really been acted on. And it seems like they're the sorts of things I ought to be bringing up in my review.

So we'll see what comes of that. I generally tried to be firm but not confrontational. I'm not very good at using buzzwords, and I tend to just want to spit it out when I have something difficult to say. Not entirely politic, although I can be polite when I want to be. (I've sometimes had people ask me to send an announcement because they thought I'd word it more tactfully than they would. Bizarre!)

Tonight I watched more cartoons (woo-hoo!), and I can recommend the Supergirl episode of Superman as quite a bit of fun, although I'd enjoy it if they'd do a particularly eerie space-bound episode as a complete story.

(By the way, the "Future Batman" cartoon is apparently set to debut in November. And have I mentioned that they're considering doing a Justice League of America cartoon for 1999? Cool!)

After I got tired of TV (didn't take long; I can watch 4 episodes in under an hour and a half), I came in and kept plugging away at football stats for our office pool. I need to get our first week's picks in by Friday. I may put them up here, particularly if anyone reading this is interested. If I end up actually having some success, then I may make my methodology public, too. (Not that it's a secret, but who cares about a system that doesn't work?)

I'm getting kind of tired of typing in numbers, though. Unfortunately the stats I want don't seem to be available in an easily-digestible format (not for free, anyway), and the home/away splits for yards gained and allowed don't seem to be available at all. Ack.

Not that I'm entirely sure what I'm going to do with some of these numbers...

Oh, yeah, and I biked in today. Woo-hoo! I think this thing is definitely getting easier, too. Tomorrow I plan to hunt for a scale, and maybe also some hand-weights to give my upper body a little exercise. No, I don't have a clue what weight I should get. I'll probably just try some and get ones that feel reasonable. Whatever that feels like.
