Doing the Little Things
We're continuing to have really lovely weather, and I've continued to go to the Union Terrace to enjoy it.
Last night, while there, I finished City on Fire, which I guess can be best summed up as being "routine". It's largely bereft of ideas and is a fairly standard political drama with some coming-of-age stuff mixed in. Really an unremarkable book, albeit an inoffensive one. Time better spent elsewhere, I'd say.
I'm continuing to take care of little tasks that have been on my list lately. I bought and installed some new seat covers in my car. The basic vinyl ones are being quite frayed and somewhat uncomfortable, so these fabric ones fit over those and (the idea is) hold everything together. I think they'll work out okay, although it will take a little while to get used to. Ah, the things one must do when one owns an 11-year-old car!
Tonight I went down to the SF group's social gathering and pushed my trip photos on anyone who would see them. Had a pretty good time chatting about various things, including an extensive discussion about credit cards. Some folks there have Visas or Mastercards which have annual fees, whereas I'd always been told that any such cards should be cancelled immediately since you can always get cards that don't have them. I also expressed that I don't see a lot of point to owning an American Express card; what does it really do for you? (I hear it has some advantages if you travel overseas, but other than that...?)
Maybe some of this has to do with how I manage my money. I don't keep running balances on my cards, and I keep my spending to acceptable levels (which is completely independent of my credit limit). I only use the cards at all because they're more convenient than carrying around checks. So maybe I'm a special case.
Karen got back in town last night, and we have plans to have dinner together tomorrow night. We might also go to Summerfest in Milwaukee on Sunday since Sonia Dada will be playing there. We're both big fans.
My cold is still with me, having mutated into a really annoying cough, and bad nasal congestion when I wake up in the morning (I drain pretty quickly once I get up and my sinuses don't bother me the rest of the day; the cough does, though). I'm still drinking many liquids. But then, I'd probably do that anyway.
So, I should probably wrap this up and get to bed at a decent hour to keep recovering from the cold. I half-suspect that if I just slept more then my body would do better at fighting this thing off. Or maybe I'm just imagining things.
