Density

Today was kind of a washout, although it was beautifully warm outside.

I went to a WisCon meeting around noon, which was kind of a waste of my time. I'm not heavily involved in working on the con - all I really do is maintain the Web page - so I didn't really have anything to do except make occasional pithy comments. So I didn't have anything to contribute, and didn't get anything out of it.

Last night I thought about punting on it, but when I woke up this morning I thought, "I missed the last one because I was too preoccupied this month, so I ought to go out of a sense of responsibility." I should have gone with my first instinct.

I did get out and go for a walk later in the day, even moving from my winter coat to my leather one as it was so warm. The problem with the first warm-weather walks of the year is that it's usually wet and muddy from all the melting snow. Ick!

I called Karen to ask if she wanted to share the walk, but she was going into work. As it turned out, she e-mailed me later when I was on-line and we ended up going to dinner. We had a little trouble finding a spot that wasn't jammed, since the Madison Civic Center had just let out from some sort of play, but we ended up having fairly yummy burgers and fries at the Angelic Brewing Company, to which I'd never been. As I've said before, I'm not much for alcohol, but the food was tasty. It was just a tad on the pricy side, but compensated for by the ample-sized sodas being only a buck each (a real deal for a restaurant!).

I finished catching up on last week's Babylon 5 episodes, and then sat down and re-watched my tape of "The Fall of Night", which I was in the mood to see. It's a very good episode, with lots of neat stuff going on. Unfortunately, the ultimate pay-off of some of it was somewhat lame (such as the story behind the Vorlons), but small matter. My mind finally clicked on what one of the final scenes reminded me of: Londo's mannerisms during his "speech" to the League of Non-Aligned Worlds during Ivanova's voiceover at the end was very reminiscent of Adolf Hitler's public speaking style. Entirely deliberate, I'm sure. I knew it looked familiar when I saw it the first time, but it took me two years to figure it out.

(That's nothing; it took me five years to figure out that Doctor Who's robotic companion K-9 had a pun for a name. I can be really dense sometimes.)
