Galapagos

Today I got together with some folks to put address labels on and sort the first mailing for next year's WisCon science fiction convention. Actually, the computer does most of the sorting when it prints out the labels; we just need to make sure we don't screw it up. I guess we're sending about 3500 flyers out for the first mailing. It took about six of us a couple of hours to put them all on.

Fortunately, the hostess baked some really yummy brownies. Unfortunately, her too cats were too shy to come out and introduce themselves. Oh, well!

I spent part of the afternoon playing a demo of a game called Galapagos, which looks pretty cool. However, I got stuck pretty quickly when I managed to get Mendel to move across a bridge of sliding squares, but when he got to the last bridge there seemed to be nothing else to do! Maybe this was the end of the demo? I couldn't tell. Anyone out there played the demo? I hate it when this happens!

At any rate, it seems neat enough that I would be willing to shell out some money for the real thing. Very nice visuals.

My mother and sister share a birthday - October 25 (can you imagine giving birth on your birthday? Uggh!) - so I spent the evening watching Game 2 of the World Series (the Indians won, evening the series at 1-1 as it heads back to Cleveland) and packing stuff to mail to them.

Boy, seems like I accomplished nothing today, doesn't it? Back to work tomorrow; I don't think I'm quite ready yet. Sigh!
