For arcane reasons dating back to our inaugural 1993 season, each team could keep up to 3 players from the previous season. We changed this for next year - if there is a next year. (Since the LoAC has several graduate students as owners, we have a potentially high owner turnover.)
Due to the strike and general scheduling conflicts, we did not hold our draft until Saturday, May 13 - 2 1/2 weeks after opening day. It took us about eight hours, but when the dust had cleared, my team, the Hot Rawds, looked like this:

Yes, the pitching looked weak even before the season started. Clearly, I had a lot of work to do, so I set to it:
Weekly Standings
May 16: 6th place. Good hitting, but a 5.31 overall ERA.
May 23: 6th place. Team ERA expands to 5.58.
May 30: 6th place. ERA stays roughly the same, at 5.62. Key additions: Jon Nunnally and Tim Wakefield. I also trade Sid Fernandez for Kevin Gross, and replace injured Pat Kelly with Derek Jeter.
June 6: 6th place. ERA finally falls, to 4.85. Key addition: Julian Tavarez.
June 13: 4th place. Key addition: Chad Ogea.
June 20: 5th place. Key additions: Salomon Torres (replacing Gross) and Manny Alexander.
June 27: 4th place. Trade: Paul Sorrento for Jeff Montgomery; strangely, this was the best deal I could get for Sorrento. Key addition: Craig Paquette.
July 4: 3rd place. A great offensive week. Key addition: Sandy Alomar Jr., finally off the DL. Key loss: Ken Ryan. Suddenly the Montgomery trade looks pretty good!
July 11: 3rd place.
July 18: 3rd place. Key addition: Jeff Cirillo (now that I have somewhere to put him).
July 25: 1st place (tie). Suddenly I have the second-best pitching in the league!
August 1: 2nd place (tie). Kevin Tapani got traded to the Dodgers, so I waive him. (Unfortunately, one of my main competition acquired both Ken Hill and Bobby Bonilla, so first place is starting to look unattainable.)
August 8: 3rd place. My offense is starting to flag, and I had an absolutely awful pitching week. (Serves me right for picking up Mike Maddux and Scott Anderson the week before.) Key additions: Brad Radke and Sean Bergman. I also activate the healthy Pat Kelly, now that Manny Alexander's playing time has vanished.
August 15: 3rd place. Key additions: Johnny Damon and Rick Krivda.
August 22: 3rd place.
And that was where it stood for the rest of the season. I narrowly fended off an effort by the fourth-place team to push past me, which was doubly tough since that fourth place team had Randy Johnson, who pitched so well in the one game California/Seattle playoff to decide the winner of the AL West that year. When the dust had settled, the final standings looked as follows:

As you can see, my hitting was quite good, but I really had to struggle to put together a half-decent pitching staff.
For a while I was tracking each of my players closely enough to pick a "player of the week" on my team each week. I did so for much of the 95 season, but finally started losing interest (or was it time?) toward the end of the year. Here are the players I did pick, however:
Players of the Week
May 16: Mo Vaughn, 15-for-62 (.242), 8 HR, 14 R, 19 RBI, 4 SB
May 23: Mo Vaughn, 10-for-23 (.435), 3 HR, 7 R, 8 RBI, 2 SB
May 23: Tom Goodwin, 8-for-19 (.421), 6 R, 6 SB (!)
June 6: Tim Wakefield, 17.1 IP, 2 W, 0.52 ERA, 5.71 WHIP, 9 K
June 13: Charles Nagy, 15 IP, 1 W, 1.80 ERA, 7.20 WHIP, 15 K
June 20: Chad Curtis, 10-for-30 (.333), 2 HR, 5 R, 9 RBI, 2 SB
June 27: Chad Ogea, 14.2 IP, 2 W, 0.61 ERA, 7.36 WHIP, 8 K
July 4: Mo Vaughn, 10-for-28 (.357), 5 HR, 9 R, 10 RBI, 1 SB
July 11: Tim Wakefield, 17 IP, 2 W, 1.59 ERA, 10.59 WHIP, 7 K
July 18: Chad Curtis, 6-for-20 (.300), 1 HR, 5 R, 2 RBI, 3 SB
July 25: Tim Wakefield, 14.2 IP, 2 W, 1.66 ERA, 7.98 WHIP, 13 K
August 1: Ron Karkovice, 5-for-17 (.294), 2 HR, 6 R, 5 RBI
August 8: Mo Vaughn, 14-for-31 (.452), 3 HR, 7 R, 13 RBI
August 15: Tim Wakefield, 17.1 IP, 2 W, 1.56 ERA, 7.29 WHIP, 8 K
August 22: Tom Goodwin, 9-for-31 (.290), 7 R, 3 RBI, 2 HR, 3 SB
hits since 24 August 2000.
