The Decisions Never Get Any Easier

For the second year in a row I've had a rather crummy day before my fantasy baseball draft. Although this year was not as bad as last year.

I spent most of the day moping around at home. I did finish and copy my APAzine, and discovered in the bargain that the nearest Kinko's to me has crappy, aging self-serve copiers. (I got spoiled at the one I used in Madison, which replaced all their self-serve copiers a few years ago with nice new ones.)

I'm still feeling down about my apartment, and trying to decide whether I should move. I technically have a month-to-month lease for the next couple of months, at which point the landlord wants me to sign a year lease. I'm trying to decide whether I can stay here for a year, or if I can stand to move. This move, of course, would come out of my own pocket, and I wonder if I can take the stress of a third move in as many months. (Did I mention all this yesterday? I guess so.)

And one thing that didn't help is that my refrigerator seems to be having trouble keeping things cold. It's doing the job - but not by much, and I have it turned up all the way. And this is totally just a case of bad timing; under other circumstances I'd just say, "Well, these things happen; I'll call the landlord and have him get it fixed." But now, of course, it's One More Thing.

I don't know. I don't know that my situation would be especially improved by moving, except that I could perhaps pick a location more convenient to getting around places. But I still don't know the area well enough to feel I could pick a safer location (assuming this one is unsafe, which has not yet really shown itself to be the case), and I could certainly end up with a crummier and/or more expensive place (thin walls, loud neighbors, etc.).

It's a trade-off, but I'm not enthused about either option. I guess if I could find a place I really liked in Mountain View... but who knows.

I don't think I've mentioned that summer broke out a few days ago here; temperatures in the 70s or even 80s, and with some humidity and lots of sunshine. I've been wearing shorts, and the air smells different, reminding me of my trip out here last summer. The sunsets have been beautiful, and I've been telling myself that I need to get over to the ocean to see one sometime soon. Especially since Daylight Savings Time means the sun sets after 7:30 pm.

Of course, I was indoors most of the day moping...

...and I only barely finished up my fantasy baseball draft preparation. My heart just wasn't in it.

Hopefully tomorrow will be better. I'll be in a room full of people poring over baseball statistics and sharing in the catty conversation. My heart may not be in draft preparation, but I always enjoy the drafts... they're the big reason I keep playing.

Anyway, I've stayed up late to finish the baseball stuff and writing this entry, so... more tomorrow...
