Stop the Insanity! Well, Okay, Not Really

Things have just been insanely busy here lately. And it seems unlikely they'll slow down much in the next week, since I have an APAzine to write by next week, and a fantasy baseball draft to prepare for by Sunday. It's all fun, but it is exhausting.

Yesterday I did let myself sleep in, though, and spent the morning in bed reading comics and the Sunday paper. That was nice.

In the afternoon, however, I went out and bought a bookcase, and unpacked another 2-1/2 boxes of books, which leaves only 2-1/2 more boxes to go. Yes, I'll have to buy one more bookcase... but I'm probably going to wait until after the next payday to do so.

I'm still trying to catch up on all my taped TV... obviously I need to basically take a couple of evenings and just sit and watch stuff (i.e., vegetate), although I don't see such an evening coming up in the near future. I'm watching some really excellent Homicide episodes from the fifth season, involving Chief Medical Examiner Julianna Cox (played by Michelle Forbes, who played Ensign Ro Laren on Star Trek: The Next Generation [a role which had basically nothing going for it except Michelle Forbes]) and the investigation of Mike Kellerman by the FBI for possibly taking bribes.

I also watched the rather lame Learning Channel show called "Super Heroes" from a few weeks back, which was quite pedestrian and of course got some of its facts wrong, too. But then, I'm probably not the average viewer of such a show.

Then, last night I drove up to meet John and Ben at City Pub in Redwood City for dinner. City Pub is basically just what it says: An English-style pub (what I guess eventually evolved into a bar-and-grill in the US). They make fairly tasty burgers, and John and I have become enamored of their wings recently. The conversation mostly revolved around dating, relationships and sex, which of course meant that I didn't have all that much to add to it (I think I remember having sex before... yeah... sometime in the dim and distant past...).

I've also lent the first few episodes of Homicide to John, which he says he's enjoyed. I managed to dig up three more to lend to him, but otherwise I think he'll have to wait 'till the re-runs loop back to the beginning in about a month or so. I might start taping them to keep at that point, too.

Today I was at work quite a long while - about 9-1/2 hours, actually, which is pretty long for me. This is likely a sign that I'm enjoying my new job. Although it may partly have been that I was having trouble getting something to work right. I can be stubborn that way.

After work I did some grocery shopping, and also stopped in a store called Storables, which sells (you guessed it) shelving, containers, and other such odds-and-ends. They are pretty well stocked with stuff, although as you might also guess their prices are on the high side. At any rate, I think I've finally found the shelving I want for my games in my closet. At least I know where to go, although I don't think I'll buy the stuff for a little while.

Tonight I gave the cats some catnip, their first in the new place. They loved it, as always, and spent some time play-fighting until they wore themselves out and went to sleep. Later on Jefferson came out while I was fiddling with videotapes and rolled around in it while I scratched his tummy. They're good fellas, even if they did get into a bag of cat food that I left on the counter. (Yeah, I know, what an idiot I was to leave it out. But I figured if they didn't go for it in the eight hours I was home or off at City Pub last night, why would they get into it during the night? Gah.)

Well, that's all for now. I am pretty rushed and must get some sleep.
